Blast from the Past – Golfing Days Revisited

Got a real surprise from my sister this morning—she was going through Mum’s old things and came across a photo of me taken at a charity event at Southport Golf Club on the Gold Coast. Judging by the look of it (and the amount of hair I had), it must have been taken around 40 years ago by the Gold Coast Bulletin—right in the middle of my glory days as a scratch golfer.

Back then, I was chasing the dream of turning pro—probably sometime in the mid to late ‘80s. Came painfully close too… missed my pro card by just two shots in ‘91. But with a wife and three young kids, the finances just didn’t stack up, so golf was shelved for nearly 15 years.

Talk about a blast from the past—I was even skinny back then! Something I keep trying to convince people of… and now, at 68, I’ve finally got photographic proof. Big thanks to my sister for the trip down memory lane.
