Location and Access
Located just 67 km from Kanchanaburi city, the drive is smooth and scenic, taking about 50 minutes. Light traffic during the low season makes it an easy round-trip from town, and hidden in the hills above one of Thailand’s largest reservoirs, lies a golf course that surprised us in all the right ways.
Srinagarind Dam Golf Course is perched beside the massive Srinagarind Dam in Si Sawat, offering breathtaking views and some of the most creative elevation use we’ve seen in Thailand. It’s a public 18-hole course developed in 1985 by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)—and while there’s no name-brand architect credited, the in-house design makes brilliant use of natural terrain and scenic contours.
The course itself is tucked behind the dam, wrapping around mountains, valleys, and tree-lined ridges. You feel miles away from everything—and that’s part of its charm.
Course Design and Layout
Don’t be fooled by its quiet setting—this course is no pushover. It plays 6,425 yards from the blues (5,869 m), with a slope rating of 127, offering real challenge and reward for smart golfers.
One par-3 drops nearly 100 metres into a valley, giving you a moment that’s both intimidating and unforgettable.
Many fairways are sloped or elevated, requiring accurate drives and precise second shots—this is not a bomb-and-gouge layout.
Strategic play is key—if you’re offline off the tee, you could find yourself blocked by trees or firing across ravines.
White (5,539 m) and red (5,000 m) tees make the course accessible for casual players or high handicappers.
This is a thinking golfer’s course, ideal for small groups who enjoy course management and creativity over sheer distance.
Course Conditions
We played on a Tuesday and were shocked—in the best way possible—to have the course completely to ourselves.
Fairways were firm but lush, rolling beautifully with the recent rain. Drives were gaining 30–40 extra yards but punished you if you landed on the wrong slope.
Greens were soft, spongy underfoot, and among the best we’ve experienced recently smooth, true, and surprisingly quick on downhill putts.
Bump-and-run shots were very playable thanks to firmer surrounds—something we’d love to see more of in Thailand.
Bunkers were few but playable, with good sand quality and smart placement.
Facilities and Services
While it’s not a luxury resort course, everything you need is there and in working order.
· Pro shop with basic equipment and club rentals
· Driving range and putting green available
· Caddies (260–500 THB) were knowledgeable, helpful, and cheerful—many play themselves
· Carts are mandatory (500–600 THB) due to the severe elevation
· Restaurant with a stunning terrace overlooking the dam—a great place to unwind post-round
· On-site accommodation available for those wanting to stay overnight or play back-to-back days
Note: English is limited at reception—although I did book easily as an English speaking Farang
Green Fees and Value
This course offers outstanding value, especially given its unique layout and location.
· Thai Seniors (60+): 100 THB
· Thai Players: 400 THB
· Foreigners: 400–600 THB
· Caddy: 260–500 THB
· Cart (mandatory): 500–600 THB
Total for a foreign player: approximately 1,150 THB
At that price—with those views and challenges—we think it’s one of the best value rounds in western Thailand.
Highlights
1. Epic mountain and dam views throughout the course
2. Dramatic elevation changes create unforgettable holes
3. Very few players midweek—feels like your own private course
4. Strategic, rewarding layout with top-notch caddies
5. A perfect day trip or overnight stay for local golf groups
Considerations
· Carts are mandatory—it’s not walkable
· Greens play medium speed, not as fast as high-end resort courses
· Modest clubhouse and pro shop—don’t expect five-star luxury
· Booking help may be needed for non-Thai speakers
Final Thoughts
Srinagarind Dam Golf Course is a hidden gem. No big marketing, no celebrity course designer—but it absolutely delivers where it counts: layout, natural beauty, and challenge.
We rate it 8 out of 10 and recommend it highly for serious players, groups of mates, or Kanchanaburi visitors looking to escape the resort circuit and try something different.
This course deserves to be a regular feature on the Kan golf calendar—and we’ll certainly be back.
If you're looking for a quiet, challenging round with unforgettable views, Srinagarind Dam should be at the top of your list.
