Course Overview
Designed by respected Thai golf course architect At-anan Yomchinda and opened in 1992, Evergreen Hills Golf Club & Resort is an 18-hole, par-72 layout stretching 6,879 yards through a tranquil, wooded highland valley near the Myanmar border. The course is well-regarded for its natural setting, narrow fairways, and elevated greens with subtle but challenging slopes. Mature trees and native vegetation line the course, contributing to both its difficulty and its beauty.
Two standout holes are the par-3 16th, which features a picturesque island green, and the par-4 17th—a dogleg flanked by water hazards that demands both accuracy and strategy.
Experience and Value
The Kan Social Golf Group recently had the pleasure of playing Evergreen Hills. Despite the hot and humid weather, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. At just 1,250 THB (inclusive of green fee, cart, and caddy), the course represents exceptional value. For those of us living in Kanchanaburi on a pension, it’s a joy to find a course of this quality that remains affordable enough to play regularly.
While our scores weren’t remarkable, this was no fault of the course or conditions—it was simply a demanding test of golf.
Key Characteristics
Evergreen Hills has several features that define the golfing experience here:
Narrow fairways requiring precision off the tee
Elevated, sloping greens that test short game skills
Lush, tree-lined holes with mature native vegetation
Minimal on-course development, preserving the peaceful, natural setting
Course Conditions
Greens: Generally in very good shape. A bit slower than previous weeks, likely due to recent rain and reduced mowing. A few patchy areas appeared on select holes but did not significantly affect putting. Notably, the second nine may have been cut more recently than the front, resulting in a difference in speed. Overall, greens are well above average for courses in this region.
Fairways: Beautifully maintained. Narrow and tree-lined, requiring accuracy off the tee. In many places, the turf is so well-kept it’s like hitting off a green—truly top quality.
Rough: Manageable but still presents challenges, particularly with trees and natural obstacles. The first and second cuts aren’t overly penal but do demand smart shot selection.
Bunkers: Mixed conditions. Some were quite sandy though damp from recent weather. Like many Thai courses, bunker maintenance isn’t perfect, but we noted that caddies were raking them, indicating they are reasonably cared for.
Water Hazards: Most come into play on the back nine, especially in the final holes. Currently, the course is wet enough that balls tend to hold, but in drier seasons, you'll want to carry a few extra balls—water is in play on nearly 50% of the holes.
Facilities
The clubhouse is modest but functional. The restaurant serves excellent Thai food, and the locker rooms, while basic, are serviceable with working lockers and newly renovated showers with hot and cold water.
Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping area, and putting green. The green speeds here don’t always match the course but are good for warming up. At 30 THB per 40 balls, the range is a great value.
Final Verdict
Evergreen Hills Golf Club is a hidden gem nestled in the Kanchanaburi highlands. It offers a challenging, well-designed course that rewards accuracy and thoughtful play, all set in a peaceful natural environment. With outstanding value and genuine Thai hospitality, it’s a destination that’s easy to recommend for both casual and serious golfers alike.
